4 Astonishing Reasons Visit Zanzibar

Published on Thu - 2nd Aug 2018

Great Reasons to Visit Zanzibar

Zanzibar is one of Tanzania's top destinations because of its fascinating past and its incredible beaches. Zanzibar's location in the Indian Ocean has made it a natural trading center throughout its history. Famous for its spices, Zanzibar also became an important slave trading post under its Arab rulers. Stone Town, Zanzibar's capital, is a World Heritage site and boasts beautiful traditional houses, narrow alleyways, a Sultan's palace, and many mosques.

Zanzibar has many beautiful beaches that can be enjoyed on any budget. Some of the surrounding islands offer a total paradise for the luxury traveler, Mnemba Island is absolutely idyllic for a romantic vacation.

Fascinating beaches

Zanzibar is the home of idyllic beaches, balmy weather & warm tropical waters. This archipelago is renowned for clear warm waters, coral reefs and rich marine diversity making it a perfect under-water destination for snorkeling and diving. If it is lazy days along white sandy beaches that you are after - Zanzibar is hard to beat. But, in addition to the perfect beach destination, Zanzibar is also full of options for nature lovers, culture vultures and adventurers.

Fascinating Beaches

Unique and vibrant culture and architecture

Zanzibar is fairly undeveloped and enjoys semi-autonomy from mainland Tanzania. The colorful history and rich heritage can be seen in the strong Arabic, Indian, African, Persian and European influences and adds a vibrant dimension to the island. Exploring the cobbled alleyways of historic Stone Town’s old quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you encounter a captivating blend of diverse architectural styles in the mosques and houses interwoven to create this charming destination.

Exotic Spices

Zanzibar Island is well known as the Spice Island due to the farming and processing of aromatic spices like cloves, turmeric, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon grass and black pepper. Visit spice plantations to learn about the process and history of these crops, their medicinal and culinary uses. Follow the aromas and sample the delicious blend of flavors in the market street food and traditionally prepared dishes.

Home of Watersports

The crystal clear tropical waters surrounding the island of Zanzibar are home to some of the world’s most diverse sea life and colorful reefs.  At Mnemba Atoll marine park turtles are a common site and are used to seeing divers.  At least three pods of dolphins live in the area and are seen on almost all trips and the majestic whale sharks migrates past the island twice a year.  Around the same time of year whales can be seen and a pod of rare humpback dolphins have been sighted many times.  These strange creatures number only twelve hundred in the world and we are lucky enough to have around forty in the area.
