SEASONAL WEATHER IN TANZANIA
Weather is probably the most important thing to consider when planning your trip in Tanzania. Evidently, it's difficult to apply universal rules to a country as large and geographically diverse as Tanzania; but there are basic weather patterns that give a general idea of what you can expect at any given time of year.
Here is a full list of month throughout the year with its proposed and observed weather conditions. Remember, this list is not static, it can change in consideration to weather variations:
January: the start of the âshort dry seasonâ.
February: the hottest month, and relatively dry, just before the main rains start.
March: the main and long wet season starts.
April: the wettest month of the year with a high humidity level.
May: very rainy month; afternoon downpours are to be expected.
June: the long dry seasons begins; weather is usually sunny with clear skies.
July: the landscape is beautiful green and lush; Tanzaniaâs best time.
August: lovely warm days, cooler nights and normally very little rain.
September: dry and lovely, similar to July and August.
October: warm and clear month, with rain possible at the end of the month.
November: start of the 'short rainy season'.
December: temperatures gradually edge up during the second month of the âshort rains.
Generally Tanzania has a pleasant, tropical climate but has large regional climatic variations influenced by several factors, including altitude. Temperatures drop by about 6.5°C for every 1,000m you climb (or 3.5°F per 1,000ft). The hottest and most humid part of the country is on the coast. Other low-lying areas, such as the western and southern parks, are also hot but much less humid. The rest of the interior is much milder and cools down significantly at night. Tanzania is too close to the equator to experience a real winter and summer.
